Software and support business to expand operations to Jasper

Following months of discussion and negotiation, Provalus, a provider of software and support for the information technology industry, announced on Thursday that it will expand its operations to Jasper.

The decision was announced by Charles Ruggerio, who is President of Provalus’ parent company, Optomi, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.

Ruggerio said that if all went as planned, the company would begin surveying Jasper and interviewing potential employees within the next few weeks with plans of providing around 25 to 30 jobs within the near future.

Plans are for the firm to occupy the building that formerly housed The Peddler Publications at the corner of Main and Houston Streets, on the southwest side of the courthouse square in Downtown Jasper.

Ruggerio and others have indicated that the company, which now has a similar operation in Brewton, Alabama, could end up employing as many as 100 to 150 people within the next two years.

Also on hand for the announcement on Thursday was Interim Jasper Mayor Gary Gatlin, Jasper Economic Development Director Danny Walker, and JEDCO Executive Director Eddie Hopkins along with Jasper City Manager Denise Kelley, who all expressed how pleased they were that Provalus had selected Jasper as the site or their expansion.

In recent weeks, JEDCO and the City of Jasper had worked together to facilitate the company’s selection of Jasper by not only acquiring property in Downtown Jasper, but also planning to demolish several buildings along the south side of Houston Street between Main and Bowie Streets and build a parking lot there.

Word came several weeks ago that Jasper and Crockett were the two possible sites of the new operation and it was learned late last week that talks between the company and Crockett had apparently broke down, leaving Jasper as the target site.

Provalus will begin operations on Monday February 4th by taking applications and interviewing prospective employees at the JEDCO office, which is located in the Jasper Visitor Center at 500 South Wheeler Street between the hours of 9:00 a.m. or by going online at Indeed.com or CareerBuilder.

Potential employees that have already applied at the job fair are encouraged to follow up on those applications.
